How do you know if a painter does good work?

This is an interesting question, and one that many people fail to ask (to their sorrow). It is important for the contractor your choose to belong to the Professional Contractors Association (PCA). Membership means that the company adheres to their standards, which lends measurable quality and safety to the work. If you want to learn about the details, you can read more here.

Here are the top three reasons you should hire a PCA member.

  • Quality standards. The PCA has outlined specific guidelines that define quality workmanship. The Standards cover a range of topics from what constitutes a properly painted surface, to the correct way to remove wallcovering prior to painting, to staining & clear-coating woodwork, and more. These standards have become the governing body of the industry and are often referred to when settling legal issues between a contractor and a homeowner.  We follow these standards.

  • Training. These days, anyone who can hold a paintbrush and has watched a YouTube video can pass him or her self off as a painting contractor. The PCA lays out advanced operating procedures that its members can use to train their workers to not just become painters, but master painting craftsmen.  We follow this training.

  • Safety. Painters contribute heavily to OSHA's most-frequently cited standard violations, including ladder safety, fall protection, and respiratory protection. Safe work practices greatly reduce the chance for accidents. This means you won't have to worry about OSHA shutting down your project, or a worker of an illegitimate contractor suing you because they got hurt on your property. In addition to following the PCA safety guidelines, we are also licensed and insured (just in case).

When your money is on the line, why would you settle for anything less than a company that cares as much about quality as you do? Choose a PCA member.

  • Most quality issues surface a year or two after the project is complete. They’re usually caused by someone who did poor prep work or someone who didn’t choose the right product for the job. We don’t make those mistakes.
